30th Ojai Wine Festival Combines Craft Beer and Fine Wine for International Humanitarian Projects

(OJAI, Calif.) —Feb. XX, 2016 — For 30 years, the Ojai Wine Festival has served as the primary non-profit fundraising effort of the Rotary Club of Ojai-West and its numerous philanthropic endeavors that serve to enhance lives both locally and internationally. This year, the 30th Annual Ojai Wine Festival will be taking place Sunday, June 12, from noon-4 p.m. on the shores of picturesque Lake Casitas.

This year’s festival has been expanded to include an exceptional collection of wineries with an extensive VIP tasting experience, a unique silent auction, a beer garden with over 30 craft beers, a selection of local restaurants selling culinary delights, arts and crafts vendors, musical entertainment, a lakeside dance floor and free boat rides on the Rotary “Floating Classroom” Boat.

Although the Ojai Wine Festival has a broad line-up of wineries, there has never been a more exciting time for beer lovers to attend the event.   Joining the beer experience this year are national brew houses Founders Brewing Company from Grand Rapids, MI, 10 Barrel Brewing from Bend, OR, and Elysian Brewing Company from Seattle, WA.  Golden Road Brewing from Los Angeles joins the team of regional selections, which also includes local favorites Firestone Walker and Tap It Brewing from San Luis Obispo. Selections from Ninkasi, Goose Island, Stella, Hoegaarden, and Leffe will also be poured at the festival.

Proceeds from the signature Southern California fine wine and craft beer event directly support the international and local charitable efforts of the Rotary Club of Ojai-West.  In addition to its now 30-year commitment to the global eradication of Polio, the club is working to design and build rain catchment panels and water storage tanks to improve accessibility to clean water in some of the most underserved areas of Guatemala.  In Nicaragua, efforts are centered around the prevention of ocular and respiratory problems caused by smoke inhalation through the installation of new stoves and adequate venting systems in homes.

“Being healthy is something that most Americans take for granted. I take pride in knowing the Ojai Wine Festival is giving the gift of health to others who need relief,” says Angela May, Executive Director of Ojai Wine Festival. “Knowing the Ojai Wine Festival spreads compassion, love, hope and health to those in need is satisfying.  By purchasing a ticket to the event, people can take part in improving someone’s life; providing them with a better future by giving them something as simple as clean water, a clean burning stove, or a vaccination to protect them from a deadly disease.”  100 percent of the proceeds from the festival go back to these vital international and local projects supported by the Rotary Club of Ojai-West Foundation.

The financial resources generated by the Ojai Wine Festival not only allow local Rotarians to develop and implement humanitarian projects all over the world, but also provide the funds necessary for local education and arts efforts such as the Rotary Floating Classroom which provides free field trips for Ojai youth, and Ojai’s historic and beloved free summer band concerts in Libbey Park.

About Ojai Wine Festival

In 1987, the Rotary Club of Ojai-West launched a small wine-tasting event to bring fine wine and craft beer together for Ojai Valley Residents.  Now in its 30th year, the Ojai Wine Festival has grown into a regionally recognized signature fundraising event that attracts over 4,000 people from Northern, Central, and Southern California.  All proceeds directly support various international charitable causes including the Polio Eradication Project, the Guatemala Water Project, and the Nicaragua Stove project, as well as local projects like the Rotary Floating Classroom and the Libbey Bowl Shade project.

Spread along the shoreline of picturesque Lake Casitas, the Ojai Wine Festival has evolved into one of Southern California’s premier beverage tasting experiences.  Every year, over 60 wineries and a selection of breweries participate, along with a selection of local restaurants, caterers, and fine arts and crafts vendors.  The atmosphere is enhanced by a steady stream of live music and complimentary boat rides on the Rotary Floating Classroom.  Guests can shop for one of a kind gifts, or bid on bottles of fine wine, private tasting parties, VIP winery tours, and other luxury items at the annual Silent Auction.

Ojai Wine Festival Proceeds Continue to Support Ojai Parks & Music

(OJAI, Calif.) — Jan. 28, 2016 — For 30 years, the Ojai Wine Festival has served as the primary non-profit fundraising effort of the Rotary Club of Ojai-West and its numerous philanthropic endeavors that serve to preserve the distinct events and qualities that make Ojai unique. This year, the 30th Annual Ojai Wine Festival will be taking place Sunday, June 12, from noon-4 p.m. on the shores of picturesque Lake Casitas.

Proceeds from the signature Southern California fine wine and craft beer event have supported Ojai’s historic free summer concerts in Libbey Park for the past 15 years. Funds are regularly contributed to maintain the bandstand, purchase instruments, and provide supplies for the concerts which attract 300-400 attendees each. Libbey Park’s natural oak tree canopy provides the perfect backdrop for the concerts, but other areas of the town’s iconic park are in need of upgrades.

The Rotary Club of Ojai-West is spearheading the funding and installation of the beautiful Libbey Park shade sail project to cover and protect the city’s most popular children’s play area from extreme sun exposure during the summer months. The club’s $15,000 commitment to the costly project will be funded with proceeds from the Ojai Wine Festival.

This year’s festival has been expanded to include exceptional collection of wineries with an extensive VIP tasting experience and winery tours, a silent wine auction, a beer garden with over 30 craft beers, a selection of local restaurants selling culinary delights, arts and crafts vendors, musical entertainment, a lakeside dance floor and 30th Anniversary cake cutting ceremony sponsored by Barefoot Wines.

The Best Festivals in the USA – 2014 & 2015

Ojai Wine FestivalThe 29th annual Ojai Wine Festival takes place Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 12–4 pm on the shores of Lake Casitas, northwest of Los Angeles, California.

The wine tasting offers an excellent selection from 60 award-winning wineries. But the Ojai Wine festival features more than sampling vintages — there is a selection of 30 craft beers, for example, and two popular bands are playing. “Sgt. Pepper and Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries will get you moving on the dance floor and they put on a fantastic show,” says Angela May, executive director of the Ojai Wine Festival.

Visitors can also shop the arts and craft vendors or take in the beauty of the lake on a free 15-minute boat ride on the Rotary Boat.

“There is a wonderful selection of food vendors to choose from to buy a snack or yummy lunch,” May continues. “There is a huge silent auction that you can bid on to win a prized bottle of wine or winery tour and tasting.”

You can bring a picnic and a blanket from home and spread out on the grass to soak in the sun and the lovely scenic surroundings at Lake Casitas Recreation Area. “And … it’s all for a good cause, because 100% of the proceeds go to aid Rotary charitable projects in the local community and internationally,” explains May. The price of a general admission ticket is $60, the pre-sale price is $50 until June 12.

For the executive director personally, it is the Lake Casitas Recreation Area site that makes the event very special. “It is so beautiful there, and the setting is the perfect place to spend an afternoon taking wine and beer tasting or just having a fun, relaxing day.”

The VIP Lounge, a major highlight of the event, attracts spirits, wine and beer connoisseurs and foodies alike. “The grand canopy tent is set back on the lakefront with an open view to take in the natural beauty of the lake where patrons can unwind and relax,” May raves. VIPs are greeted with a sparkling glass of Barefoot Bubbly and enjoy a delectable selection of hors d’oeuvres served by Sakura Ojai Japanese, La Piu Bella Tavola Italian Catering and Whole Foods Market Oxnard. May recommends to pair your choice hors d’oeuvres with a wonderful selection of fine wines served by the glass by Ascension Cellars, Gainey Vineyard, Falcone Family Winery and Zaca Mesa Winery. If you prefer beer, try an ice-cold glass of Belgian style draft Stella Artois, Leffe or Hoegaarden served in a specially designed souvenir beer glass that brings out the unique character of each beer. For cider lovers, try a refreshing Stella Cidré. After all that food, wine or beer you can quench your thirst with Sparkling ICE waters, Hubert’s Lemonade or Jarritos sodas. And lastly, “For the ‘pièce de résistance’, sample a first-rate selection of tequilas from Tequila Los Tres Toños,” May suggests. VIP tickets are $150 on Event Day and $130 before June 12.

The Ojai Wine Festival is the annual fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Ojai West Foundation, which has raised over one-million US dollars to help fund local Rotary Ojai West projects, including supporting local schools, youth programs, a food bank, a CERT program, a student exchange program and so much more. Internationally, Rotary helps develop clean drinking water projects; fight illiteracy and polio worldwide.
